Cornerstone School takes children from UKG. Does that first year feel like kindergarten, or like big school already?

1on Son wants to move to Gowtham Concept School at ECIL for class 10 to be with his tuition friends
One thing I'd ask him, gently: what would he miss about his current school? If the answer is 'nothing much', that tells you something. If it's a long list, that tells you something too.
0on Admission test for class 8 at a new school, what do they usually ask?
Is it mainly because the friends go there? Asking because my elder one wanted to follow a friend last year and by the time we'd sorted it out, the friendship had moved on haha. Not saying don't, just make sure there's something else she likes about the school too.
1on My 5 year old does 'homework' next to her brother every evening, and wants it signed
My toddler does the same with her big sister's homework, except her 'work' goes directly into the real notebook 😂
0on Is a 50-minute children's play too much for a 3 year old?
Took my elder to something similar at about that age. She lasted 25 minutes and then started narrating the plot loudly to the row behind us 😂 We'd picked aisle seats near the door, so leaving was easy and nobody minded. She still talks about the crocodile puppet. Go, just sit where you can slip out.
2on My school day starts at 7.30, so I'm up at 5. Now my toddler is too
My younger one wakes at 5.45 whatever we do. What helped a bit was keeping the first half hour totally boring when she does wake. Lights off, no talking, milk in the dark. Some days she drifts off again, most days not, but it's better than it was.
0on I'm an ENT surgeon. My daughter has lost six pairs of swimming ear plugs since June
The one 'with a friend' is my favourite 😂 My 8 year old's swim cap went the same way. We spotted it a month later on the friend's younger brother.
0on Anything for nursery children after school hours at St Josephs High School, Patancheru?
Depends which direction, no? Going out of town at that hour was fine for us, coming back in was the slow part. She'd be heading back towards Nallagandla with a sleepy kid, so yes, worth one test drive.
0on Our colony association asked me to choose play equipment for the under-3s corner
Going by the one-year-old in our house: a low slide with a short ladder, a sandpit, and anything with a steering wheel. The fancy climbing frame in our park gets used by the 7 year olds while the toddlers watch. Shade matters more than equipment. Ours is useless from 11 to 4.
3on paid the daycare late fee four times in july
Small thing, but check how your daycare counts it. Ours had a 10 minute grace period that only came up when I complained about a fee. Nobody had mentioned it at admission.
1on Short Sunday hike with both kids. I carried three kilos of their rocks down the hill
The porter job never ends, it just changes what you carry. Mine is 8 and it's feathers and bottle caps now. Our rule is one per person per outing, and they carry their own. Works about half the time lol
2on Who repairs a stroller with a snapped front wheel?
Before you go anywhere, check if the brand has a service number. Ours had a broken brake and they sent the part free because it was still under warranty. It just took three weeks. Also the image of a toddler and half a stroller made me laugh out loud in the cab, sorry.
4on New seating chart puts her next to the boy who teased her all of last year
Good point, I assumed she'd know. The old teacher is still at the school, so I could ask her quietly first.
As one of those parents (two kids, one still tiny), I'd be relieved to hear 'call your paediatrician' from you, because it tells me it isn't an ambulance situation. Please don't stop saying hello in the lift though 😄
0on everyone keeps asking if he's a good baby. i don't know what the answer is supposed to be
My answer now is 'he's a baby' with a big smile. Works on about half the aunties, the other half say 'means he troubles you, no?' 😂 It sat oddly with me too. With my second I just stopped answering it properly.
We don't have a child there, but a family in our building moved their son into a State Board school in class 3 last year. Their advice to me was to get the previous year's textbooks in advance, especially Telugu and EVS, and go through them slowly over the summer. Their son found the English easier than he expected and the Telugu much harder. The first two months were the worst, then it evened out.
6on Is there much for a girl who runs at Eastern Public School in Sainikpuri?
We drove past it once while looking at schools on that side but didn't go in, so I can't tell you about the ground. One question that helped us with our elder one: ask what sports period looks like in the rains. A few schools we saw just switch to indoor games for four months of the year 😂
We're in Tarnaka and Rose Buds was on our list for a while last year. We never visited in the end, so nothing on the routine from me. On the drive though, Amberpet at 8 am from your side means Narayanguda and Barkatpura, which isn't a short run either. You probably know that already!
2on 5 month old pulls at her ears all day. Her grandmother is sure it's an infection
Very much a phase in our house. Our younger one did this from about four months to six, usually right before she fell asleep. We asked at a check-up and were told it was a self-soothing thing. It did pass.
2on a classmate told her she 'talks too much'. now she doesn't want to go back in june
My older one is a big talker too. We started telling her 'you have a lot of words, you get to choose who gets them'. She liked the idea that it was her choice. Won't work for every kid, but it ended the sulking here.
1on Short first aid course near Nacharam for two teenagers who won't learn it from their doctor father?
This is every parent with a profession. My daughter won't let me explain anything about passwords 😂 Not a course exactly, but some schools host first aid sessions in the holidays and let outsiders join. I've seen posters on the main road in Tarnaka, can't remember who ran them. Worth asking around.
1on Playschool near home or near the hospital? My calls don't keep a timetable
I partly disagree. We chose the one near my office for our elder one and I did pop across, maybe once a week, and it mattered to both of us. The real question is who collects her when you're stuck, because near your work means only you can.
That's useful, thank you. The 'new one' part is what I hadn't thought about. Did the school do anything to help the new kids settle, or was he left to it?
Adding to the notebook point: in our daughter's class 2 the daily homework was light, but the weekly tests were what took up evenings. Ask about tests separately, people tend to answer only about homework.
1on Choosing daycare for our baby. Separate infant room, or one room for all ages?
Our younger one was in a mixed room from about 10 months. The big kids treated her like a doll, which was mostly sweet and occasionally a lot. The thing to ask is how many carers are with the babies at nap time and lunch, because that's when the babies get the least attention.
