New seating chart puts her next to the boy who teased her all of last year

mellow_river_1803

Our elder one is 8 and has just gone into class 4. Last year one boy in her section made her life a bit miserable. Nothing serious: names, hiding her pencil box, that sort of thing. The teacher knew. New teacher, new chart, and he's her desk partner. She came home and said 'it's fine' in the voice that means it isn't. Do I mention last year to the new teacher in week two, or let her handle it for a bit? I don't want to be the mother who arrives with a file.

Does the new teacher know about last year at all? Sometimes the old teacher passes things on, sometimes not. I'd find that out first, it's a smaller conversation.

Good point, I assumed she'd know. The old teacher is still at the school, so I could ask her quietly first.

I'd tell the teacher. Two lines, no file. Some teasing last year, she's fine, just flagging it. Teachers seat thirty kids from a list they've never seen before, they'd rather know

give her a week. sometimes the teasing was a crowd thing, and sitting alone with her he turns out to be a normal boy who needs an eraser. if not, the two-line message.

two weeks max. then teacher. our daughter would have put up with it silently for a year if we'd waited for her to bring it up
