everyone keeps asking if he's a good baby. i don't know what the answer is supposed to be

four months now and it's the first thing every relative and neighbour asks. is he a good baby. i say yes because what else do you say, but he cries some evenings for an hour and some nights he's up at two and three, and he's still good, he's a baby. it's a small thing. it just sits a bit oddly every time.

My answer now is 'he's a baby' with a big smile. Works on about half the aunties, the other half say 'means he troubles you, no?' 😂 It sat oddly with me too. With my second I just stopped answering it properly.

I was asked the same question about my daughter sixteen years ago, and again about my son. As far as I could tell it usually means 'does he sleep and let you sleep', nothing more. People mean it kindly and don't think about what it suggests about the other kind of baby. You're allowed to answer the question they meant and keep your own view of him.
