Our colony association asked me to choose play equipment for the under-3s corner

The park in our colony has a small corner for little children with a broken swing and a metal slide that is too hot to touch by eleven. The association has a modest budget this year and, since I have more free time than most of the committee and a grandson, they have asked me to suggest what to buy. My grandson is well past that age and I do not remember what he played on at two. What do toddlers in your colonies use, and what sits there unused?

Mine is under one, so mostly he plays with the ground itself. But whatever you buy, put money into the flooring first. Rubber mats or sand under anything they can climb. Our society park has a slide on concrete tiles and nobody lets a toddler near it.

Going by the one-year-old in our house: a low slide with a short ladder, a sandpit, and anything with a steering wheel. The fancy climbing frame in our park gets used by the 7 year olds while the toddlers watch. Shade matters more than equipment. Ours is useless from 11 to 4.

Thank you both. Mats and shade have gone to the top of the list, above any equipment. The steering wheel is a good idea, I would not have thought of it. I will tell you what the committee decides.
