New van route, and our class 4 daughter is now the first pickup at 6.35

mellow_river_1803

The school van route was redrawn over the holidays and we've gone from one of the last stops to the very first. She's out at 6.35 for an 8 o'clock start, which means up at 5.45, which means bed by 8.30, which is not happening with a 2 year old sister who thinks the evening starts at 7. First week back and she has fallen asleep in the van both ways. Is it worth asking the transport office to reorder the stops, or does every family ask that and nobody ever gets moved? 😅

Ask, but ask for something specific. 'Can she be moved' gets a no. 'Can the route run in the other direction on alternate months' or 'is there a second van on our side' at least starts a conversation. Ours did switch direction one year after enough parents asked. Not the year after.

routes at our school get drawn from the farthest stop inwards, so first pickup is usually whoever lives at the edge. sometimes a five minute walk to the next stop changes the whole morning. see where the second stop is

If she's sleeping in the van both ways in the first week, she may well adjust in a few weeks; children often do. I'd give it till the end of July before deciding anything drastic. What time does the van bring her home in the afternoon? That half of the day matters too.

How did the week end? We were first pickup for a year once, and what helped most was an earlier dinner for everyone, little one included, so bedtime didn't feel like a punishment for one child. It's hard on the whole house, not only her ❤
