Trying to picture an ordinary State Board class 3 day. Rose Buds High School in Amberpet keeps coming up

silver_paper_8497

Our son moves up to class 3 after the holidays. For three years we have done a long drive to his school, and I'm starting, quietly, to look at alternatives. I teach in an IB school, so I know my own world well and State Board primary hardly at all. Two people at work mentioned Rose Buds in Amberpet. I know it isn't closer to Somajiguda. I'm using it to understand the format before I look at schools nearer home. What does a normal class 3 day look like? Roughly how much homework, how Telugu is taught to a child who speaks it at home but has never written it, and how tests work. I'm after the everyday routine, not the brochure.

Before the format question: is the drive the problem, or the curriculum? If it's the drive, your shortlist is every reasonable school within 3 km, whatever the board. If it's the curriculum, distance stops being the first filter. I ask because those two searches look nothing alike.

I'd add one thing from watching friends' children switch. At that age, moving from an inquiry style to textbook-and-test is often harder on the parents' expectations than on the child. Is your son's current school also IB, or CBSE?

Agree it's easier at 8 than later. The children in our building who moved boards around class 3 or 4 seemed settled by the end of the first term. The ones who struggled moved in class 6 or 7, when the exam format starts to matter more. That's only what I've seen around us, not a rule.

We're in Tarnaka and Rose Buds was on our list for a while last year. We never visited in the end, so nothing on the routine from me. On the drive though, Amberpet at 8 am from your side means Narayanguda and Barkatpura, which isn't a short run either. You probably know that already!

Reading this with interest. We're in Malkajgiri and have begun to wonder whether State Board might suit our son at some point, so the Telugu question matters to us as well. If anyone does reply, please also say how much Telugu writing is expected at entry, not only how it is taught.

if the drive is the real issue look at bus routes before boards. we stayed at the same school and moved from driving to the school bus, saved me 80 min a day. she reads on the bus now
