Cornerstone School takes children from UKG. Does that first year feel like kindergarten, or like big school already?

Cornerstone in Chandanagar came up a few times when I was asking around about schools for our little one, who is nowhere near school age yet. One thing I noticed is that it starts at UKG, so every child arrives from somewhere else. What I can't picture is the UKG year itself. In a school that goes up to class 12, is UKG kept small and gentle, or are five year olds part of the big school from day one? And how do children coming from small playschools settle in? Our elder has been at the same school since nursery, so I've never had to think about any of this 😄

we did exactly that. small playschool 5 min from home till LKG then moved him at UKG to a bigger school. the playschool years were easy, the move at 5 was harder than i expected. most of his new class had been together since nursery and he was the new one for a good few months. would still do it again because the short walk mattered more to us when he was 3

That's useful, thank you. The 'new one' part is what I hadn't thought about. Did the school do anything to help the new kids settle, or was he left to it?

My son also changed school at 5, from a small one near our house. He stammers, so new class meant new children asking him why he talks like that. What helped was I went and told the teacher in the first week, before anything happened. She sat him next to a quiet boy and kept an eye. If your child has anything like that, tell them early, don't wait.
