6on Sree Aditya from class 3 with almost no Telugu. Do children who join late catch up?
Grandson is 9, learning Telugu at school. I started learning along with him from his textbook. Now he corrects my pronunciation. Not a solution, but it got him reading aloud every day.
2on How many separate payment circulars does Sri Chaitanya CBSE in Hayathnagar send in a year?
When my grandson's parents compared two schools, the thing they missed was books and uniform: whether they go through the school or can be bought outside, and how often the uniform changes. Small per item, adds up over the years.
1on If we move east, would Pallavi Model School in Boduppal work with two working parents?
Grandfather here, I do pickups for my grandson (different school, Sainikpuri side). If you look at a daycare that collects children, ask how many schools their van covers. One van doing three schools means your child waits at the gate for the last one.
1on Is 13 old enough to be in charge of his 10 year old sister for three hours?
I do afternoons for my grandson three days a week, so I see this from the other side. Children cope with the hours fine. What they don't cope with is the unplanned thing: a power cut, a fight, a missing key. We agreed on one fixed call at 4 pm every day, even if there's nothing to say. Five minutes. Took the guessing out for everyone 🤷
0on Full-day daycare or half-day preschool plus help, if my partner goes back to work next year?
From the grandparent side: we did two afternoons a week for our grandson at that age, and his parents covered the rest with a full-day place. Those afternoons mattered more than you'd think, he got some short days in the week. If your relatives can commit to even one fixed day, I'd build the plan around it.
0on Everything is typed in grade 7 now and her handwriting has gone downhill
My grandson is 8 and still writes everything by hand, so I'm watching this with interest. In my day we were made to copy out pages. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but a little writing every day did keep it legible. A letter to her grandparents now and then counts.
2on son has asked me not to send our snacks for his class birthdays anymore
Discount requests, of course. My grandson went through something like this when his mother started baking cakes from home: one boy in his class kept placing 'orders' through him. He was 8 and did not enjoy being the middleman. Let him have the plain cake this year. He'll probably be asking for your snacks again in a few years.
3on Confirm class 11 continuation by October? Our daughter's school already wants an answer
Our grandson is much younger, so no direct experience. But when my own children were in school, every school wanted early confirmation. Most families confirmed and quite a few left anyway. Wouldn't lose sleep over it.
1on Two months at my in-laws' with the baby while I stay back for work. Good idea?
Grandparent here. We had our daughter and grandson with us for two months. Best two months we've had in years, and I slept very little. When they left, the house was too quiet for a week. So your in-laws will be thrilled and tired. Both true 🤷
1on Not telling our 5 yr old yet. He found my pregnancy vitamins and wants to know if I'm sick
In our time nobody told the children until the baby was nearly there. My elder son found out from the neighbours, who had known for months. Tell him when you are ready, but know the neighbours may get there first.
1on How do we bring up daycare for our toddler when family lives with us and looks after her?
Speaking as the grandparent in this arrangement at our house: I'd have been relieved, though I might not have said so. Just make sure the mornings or evenings with her stay with whoever has been caring for her. That's the part that would hurt to lose.
0on Our nanny wants her son at Naagarjuna The Next Gen School in Karmanghat. What should she ask?
Tell her to go once at dismissal time, not just for the appointment. You see how the children come out, who is waiting, how the vans line up. Ten minutes at the gate tells you a lot.
1on New Brilliant High School is five minutes' walk from us. Enough reason to split the girls' boards?
Grandfather here, I do the 4 pm pickups for my grandson. Walking distance is worth more than people think at that age, especially once the rains start. On the board question, I'd ask the school how many children leave after class 5 or 7, and where they go.
Good advice. I'd add one: tell them how the school deals with the grandparent who does pickup. Nobody asks, and half the time it's us at the gate 🤷
3on Our 12 year old asked her mother, in front of the relatives, when she's going back to work
When I cut down to part-time advisory work, my grandson asked if I had been fired. Children only understand jobs as full-time or nothing. Your daughter may simply need the in-between explained.
1on monsoon day trip within 2 hrs of mehdipatnam, with a toddler and an older one
Late, but: Mrugavani near Chilkur. Close enough that if the little one melts down you are home in forty minutes. My grandson enjoyed the walk more than spotting anything.
6on Our preschooler's fistful of curry leaves made the best rasam in weeks
Head cook at that age is a title worth keeping. My grandson was given papad duty and guarded it with his life.
1on LKG day at Takshasila High School in LB Nagar, if we end up renting nearby
40 min is long at that age. My grandson did a similar ride in UKG and fell asleep in the van most days, the driver used to carry him in. Ask if there is a lady attendant on the van.
1on Four months in and relatives still turn up on Sundays without calling
Years ago, I was that relative. Nobody told us, so we kept coming. When my son finally said "Sunday mornings don't work, come Saturday after 4", we came Saturday after 4. Give them a slot, not only a no.
1on Asking about class 1 at Gowtham Model High School in the middle of May. Am I wasting their time?
Agree, go in person. And five minutes on foot is worth a great deal at that age. My grandson's school is a short walk and on days like these that alone is a blessing 🤷
1on Rosary Convent in Abids is a family tradition on my partner's side. We live in Nallagandla
Speaking as a grandparent: the elders are attached to the school they remember. Ask your mother-in-law to visit it with you now. A school changes a lot in thirty years. So does the traffic to Abids.
4on Six weeks back at work and I'm enjoying it more than I expected. Is that a terrible thing to say?
When our children were small, both of us went back to work early, and people said things then too. The children grew up fine and nobody remembers now who was home when. Say what's true. 🤷
