My client calls and my grandson's 4 pm homecoming keep colliding

lagoon_moon_7881

Three weekdays a week I have my grandson for the afternoon while his parents work. He gets off the van at 3.50, hungry and full of news. Most of my advisory calls get booked in the afternoon, and twice this week he has walked into a call to tell me about a classmate's lunch box. I don't mind him at all, and the clients mostly don't either. But I'd like something better than shutting a door on a boy who has been waiting all day to talk. How do working parents here handle the first half hour after school?

Had the same with my daughter when I started working from home. What works for us: first 15 minutes are hers, snack and full story, no laptop. Only then I go back. If a call is fixed at 4, I tell her at breakfast that today she has to wait, and knowing in advance she manages fine. Maybe ask clients to start at 4.15 on your days with him, chinna adjustment 🙂
