Our preschooler's fistful of curry leaves made the best rasam in weeks

He 'helped' with the rasam today. His job was to tear the curry leaves into a bowl. He tore them, and then, while I was busy with the tamarind, tipped the entire bowl into the pot. It was the best rasam we've had in weeks. He now considers himself the head cook and has asked what we're making tomorrow.

Our son is the official salt-adder. We've started keeping the salt on a high shelf.

Let him keep the role. My elder son started the same way with chapati dough at about that age, and now, in his teens, he makes a respectable dal when we are home late.

This is lovely ♥ Write down how much he added before you forget, because he will ask for exactly that rasam again.

    • Seconding this. We never wrote ours down, and my daughter still claims a 'secret' version of a coconut chutney that none of us can reproduce.

Excellent. In our house the granddaughter's job is the coriander. Half goes in the dish, half in her mouth.

Head cook at that age is a title worth keeping. My grandson was given papad duty and guarded it with his life.
