In our time nobody told the children until the baby was nearly there. My elder son found out from the neighbours, who had known for months. Tell him when you are ready, but know the neighbours may get there first.
neighbours yes, but the bigger risk is phone calls. my son at that age listened to every call even when he looked busy with lego. if anyone in the family calls about the pregnancy, take it on the balcony

This is so true. When I was expecting my younger one, my elder was three and announced it at the park after hearing me on the phone with my sister. I hadn't even told my manager. Small ears hear everything.
