1on 14 year old has a full plan for getting home at 9.30. Last year's rule was 7
he did the work, which is more than most adults do before asking for something. what's the actual reason you want to say no. if it's the cab, say that. if 9.30 just feels late, worth noticing that too. we moved our 13 yr old to case by case and it's been fine, mostly
0on Parents picked a class outing venue with steps everywhere, and one classmate uses a wheelchair
a phone call is a lot less awkward than everyone discovering the forty steps at the gate on the day. good that you're making it.
3on Still counting on his fingers for 7 x 8 in class 5. Push the tables, or let it be?
is he getting them right? then he has a method that works. speed usually turns up later. mine is 13 and still counts on her fingers for a couple of them, quietly, and her marks haven't noticed
4on 214 unread messages in the class group and nobody knows the homework
ours is about 300 messages and then someone posts a blurry photo of the board at 10.40 pm and the whole group goes quiet, satisfied
1on inter first year and a test every sunday since june
the speed point is fair. i did class 12 with nothing like this and was slow in every exam until medical college. not sure which is worse
1on Tuition centre posts every child's weekly test marks, ranked, on the parents' group
a ranked list of nine year olds on a group of thirty adults. who exactly is that for. it isn't the children. i'd ask them to send each parent their own child's marks and leave it there.
0on My 12 year old's feet overtook mine this summer. My new walking shoes are now 'ours'
football 'once'. check the soles. that's where the truth is.
0on Moving our 8 month old from our bed to his own cot. How did the first week go for you?
we never managed it. ours moved out of our bed at 4, on her own, with great ceremony and a new pillow. so i'd say you have time, but you also might be doing this for years.
1on My son interviewed me for a class project on careers. I got 3 out of 5 for 'answers too long'
my daughter interviewed me for the same kind of project last year. her summary of twenty-odd years of surgery was 'mumma looks inside ears and is mostly at the hospital'. no rating, which i now think was a kindness
0on I'm an ENT surgeon. My daughter has lost six pairs of swimming ear plugs since June
one colour is clever. buying twelve identical pairs tomorrow
1on I'm an ENT surgeon. My daughter has lost six pairs of swimming ear plugs since June
a swim cap is at least big enough to spot on someone else's head. ear plugs go into a child's pocket and never come out
0on Our 3 year old will only eat what she serves herself. About half reaches the plate
my daughter did this at three and now, in middle school, won't eat anything i've plated because i 'never do it right'. so it passes, and then it comes back in another form. a tray under the plate helps with the floor at least.
0on Class 12 son wants to go to school only twice a week and spend the rest at coaching
the 'wasted' periods in class 12 tend to be english and the practical files. both come back in february. i'd want to know who is doing his practicals if he isn't there.
0on Do any schools let a class 8 kid sit in on a normal day before you apply for class 9?
get her to write down three things she'll look for before she goes. otherwise the verdict will be about the canteen and whose shoes are cooler.
4on 13 year old says she concentrates best after 10 pm. Do I believe her?
done well, annoyingly. her maths notebook has never looked neater. it's the 6.15 alarm that's the issue.
1on My 4 year old will only eat from his thatha's steel plate now
the dent is load-bearing. do not let anyone fix it.
0on She watched me put in eye drops twice. Now she tilts her head back for every small bottle
ent here. mine used to put the otoscope tip on her finger and look in everyone's ears. she's 12 now and won't let me anywhere near hers. enjoy the cooperative patient phase
0on Five boys, a monsoon fort trek near Lonavala, and no adult going
whatever you decide, a charged power bank and a fixed time to call. not negotiable in our house for anything after dark. my daughter's 13 and i can already see this argument coming for me in four years
first week is everyone rushing through the 'revision of last year' they promised. ours said the same about science on day two and has stopped complaining since. give it till the first class test.
1on My 10 year old has asked me to stop putting her photos on my WhatsApp status
at 10 she's asking for something small and reasonable, and asking politely. i'd read that as a good sign about her, not a list of hidden grievances
2on Where do the little ones stand for assembly at Chanakya Olympiad School, and for how long?
the question every parent should ask and nobody does. my daughter's school allows caps. half the class keeps them in the bag as a fashion statement.
4on My 11 year old wants to read whatever her 14 year old cousin is reading
read one yourself. took me an evening, and i stopped worrying about the kissing and started worrying about the grammar.
2on Is there a school bus from the Begumpet side to Chanakya Olympiad School in Shaikpet?
the question i'd add: what time would the bus pick him up. a 7 am stop for a school that starts at 8.30 is a long ride for a small boy, and the first stops on any route are always the farthest ones.
2on Has anyone's employer agreed to a phased return after maternity leave?
surgeons don't get phased anything, theatre lists don't care. but i'd go to your manager with exact days and an end date, not a request. 'tue, wed, thu till early july' is much harder to bat away than 'can i do fewer days for a while'
1on Park with a sandpit and some shade around Narsingi or Manikonda? He'd dig all day if we let him
seconding early mornings. also, from someone who removes things from small ears for a living, every summer brings in a sandpit or two. a hat with a proper brim helps more than you'd think
