Tuition centre posts every child's weekly test marks, ranked, on the parents' group

Both my kids go to the same evening tuition near our house in Mehdipatnam, my daughter in class 6 and my son in class 4. Since this month, every Saturday the centre posts a list of the weekly test marks on the parents' group. Full names, highest to lowest, one list per class. My son was near the bottom of his list this week. He hasn't seen it, but his friends' parents have, and one of them has already sent me a 'don't worry, mine was also low' message. My partner, who handles most of the tuition side, thinks it's harmless and that it motivates the children. I don't like it, but I can't quite put my finger on why, and I'm not sure if it's worth raising with the centre.

a ranked list of nine year olds on a group of thirty adults. who exactly is that for. it isn't the children. i'd ask them to send each parent their own child's marks and leave it there.

my daughter's tuition did this when she was in class 5. she was usually in the middle and never said much about it. years later she told me she used to check where her best friend was before checking her own name.

That detail about checking the friend's name first stays with me. It's the comparison, not the marks, that does the damage. Did you ever raise it with the tuition, or did you just let it run its course?

This is exactly what I'm scared of for next year. Our daughter is still small, but I already know I'd be the one reading the list at midnight. I think you're right to feel uneasy ❤️

moved my son out of a tuition that did this, class 4 also. new one sends marks only to the parent. no difference in his marks, big difference in our saturdays 😄

Have you asked whether they would send marks individually instead? Some centres do the group list only because it's less work for them.
