My 4 year old will only eat from his thatha's steel plate now

citrus_hammock_2238

My father-in-law comes over on Tuesdays and Fridays and eats from the same old steel plate he has used for years, the one with the dent near the rim. Our son watched this for a month and has now decided it is the only plate he will eat from. With his hands, like thatha, rice up to the elbows. On the days thatha visits there's a standoff over who gets it. Thatha lets him win every time, of course ❤️

Buy a second plate and put a dent in it. Problem solved, until he notices it isn't THE plate.

My son did this with his grandfather's tumbler at that age. He's 15 now and still drinks water only from that tumbler when we visit 😂

That's lovely. Our younger one claimed her grandmother's small brass bowl the same way. It now comes on every trip, wrapped in a towel.

Rice up to the elbows is the right stage, though. Our younger one ate neatly with a spoon until about 6 and then insisted on eating with his hands. It was months before less went on the floor than in his mouth.

Noting this for when ours gets there. Right now we're at the stage where the rice goes on her head.

In our house it was my bou's kansa thali. Every child in the family went through a phase of wanting it. Let him have it. These plates outlast all of us.

We have one of those from my grandmother as well, and I had not thought of giving it to the girls for everyday meals. Is it fine to use with hot rasam and the like, or does it react?

Does he eat more off it? If yes, I'd count that as a win and go buy plates.
