In our house it is the 4 year old who finds everything, height or no height. And the 10 year old, like your 17 year old, knows exactly where and says nothing.

Before changing the food, is the 5 pm slot fixed? Our son had a class at that hour when he was 7 and the evenings looked much the same. We moved it to Saturday morning and most of the irritability went with it. That may not be possible with her teacher. Does she still enjoy the class itself?

One point from living nearby: the roads around here crawl at school time, and from Motinagar that adds up. Has your son tried the route at the actual morning hour? It might change his mind, or settle it.

Have you asked whether they would send marks individually instead? Some centres do the group list only because it's less work for them.

From what we've seen with our two, schools around Secunderabad mostly open junior applications between October and December for the following June. Some keep an enquiry list before that. Calling in September of the year before seems safest.

We kept the table for our daughter a little longer than for our son, with a hand on her the whole time. Once she could roll and push up in one movement it stopped feeling safe. The floor is harder on your back, but nobody falls off it.

He liked seeing the colours fill up, and I could see at a glance if a subject was being avoided. Did the school give portions in a single sheet, or separately for each subject?

Fair point. I had only looked at websites. I will go to the two clubs near the parade grounds this week and ask at the desk. If anyone has done this already, I would still like to know which ones allow children on weekend mornings.

We have not looked at this branch, but our younger one is at the same stage, so we asked this at two other schools. What helped was asking to see an LKG notebook from the current term, not the display file at reception. One school showed us without any fuss. The other said it wasn't possible, which also told us something. Would this school let you visit during class hours, or only on an admission day?

Did she say why? For our son 'any' meant he didn't want to pick something his friends would tease him about. Once that came out he wrote two choices.

Our two are in different schools. The younger one goes to a preschool five minutes from home, and our son is at a school further away. For us the morning decided it. A three year old in a 40 minute van makes for a very long day. One question though. Would he share the van with your daughter? That changes things.

The 'what would you change' question is the one I would want too. But would the school be comfortable with him answering it frankly at their own table? It may be worth asking them what they expect before the day.

We are doing a similar comparison for our daughter, who starts class 1 in a couple of years. Do you know whether Prathibha Vidyaniketan follows the state syllabus fully from class 1, or a mix with other books? That decided it for a couple of families we know.

A short letter to the principal from your daughter's school, not only from the girls, will carry much more weight. It should say what they will do, for how many weeks, with which class, and that a teacher or parent will be present. I would also offer a small, fixed slot, for example one library period a week for six weeks, rather than an open offer. Would her project coordinator be willing to make the first phone call?

Is the plan for the caregiver to do every drop, or would you drop on office days and she covers the rest? We tried a split like that and the pattern changing week to week unsettled our son more than the commute did.

We did the reverse with our younger one at that age, bath first, because she'd fall asleep in the middle of dinner otherwise. What time does daycare give her the afternoon snack? That might be why the earlier dinner works for yours.
