She speaks Tamil with her paati on the phone every day but can't read a word of it. I'd like her to manage signboards and her grandmother's birthday cards by next summer. Online is an option, but she gets enough screen time for school already. Looking for something in person on a Saturday or Sunday, a small group is fine. Is there anything out this way?
Not near you, sorry, and not Tamil. We looked for a Bengali reading class for our son around Sainikpuri for a year and found nothing in person, so we ended up with an online teacher twice a week. Thakuma checks the homework on a video call. Not what you want, but it worked better than I expected 🙂
Same experience with Tamil in Secunderabad. Online worked for reading with my younger daughter. Her speaking didn't improve until we had her read short things aloud to her grandmother, who was very patient with the mistakes.

How did you keep her at it once it moved past single letters to joined ones? Our son did fine with the Malayalam letters and then stopped wanting to sit for it.
