1on after years of my older son's long bus rides, looking at olive school in kphb for the little one
ten years of bus rides and he came out of it a reader, there are worse outcomes. for the little one i'd ask what lkg does in the last hour. in some schools the day is long on paper and the last bit is mostly waiting for buses. if your partner collects early he might miss nothing, or he might be the only one leaving. worth asking
0on Moving our 8 month old from our bed to his own cot. How did the first week go for you?
can confirm. my baby took to the cot in about a week. the 8 year old still turns up in our bed at 2 am.
0on class 10, and he's started tutoring the neighbour's son in maths. paid
teacher here. explaining something to a younger kid shows you very fast what you don't really understand, so it can help. but class 6 maths isn't class 10 maths. it won't replace his own practice
0on Take my one week of paternity leave at the birth, or save it for later?
take it at the start. the first week you're running between the hospital, the pharmacy and the paperwork anyway, and nobody remembers to feed the new parents
0on Office moving to Balanagar. NSKK High School for our younger one, near work instead of near home?
this. and school-near-office only works as long as the office and the job both stay put. i teach, i see the mid-year leavers when that changes
0on Grandson now reads every shop board out loud on our morning walk
best reading practice there is, and free. wait till he starts pointing out the spelling mistakes on the boards. mine does, loudly
1on Does Kakatiya Techno School in Vanasthalipuram ever let colony children use its ground on Sundays?
teacher here, different school. the principal can say yes but usually management decides, and the first thing they think about is liability. go with one or two parents who'll be there every single time
1on Leaving early for a school thing. Do you tell your team the real reason?
i'm a teacher, so school is the only reason anyone leaves early in my staffroom. nobody blinks. different world, i know
I'm back at school with a baby under one, and for me there wasn't a choice to discuss. What I've noticed is that the comments are loudest in the month before and quietest once there's a routine everyone can see working. Don't argue through the month, just get through it.
I teach in a CBSE school, not this one. Where I work, the evening care is run by an outside group using two rooms on campus, and parents often assume it's the school's own. If anything like that exists there, ask who runs it and whether the school's pickup rules apply to it.
0on Would Springdales in Balanagar let us sit in on an LKG class before we decide?
i teach. a stranger at the back of an lkg room means 25 children performing for that stranger for the whole hour. you won't see a normal day anyway
0on My 14 year old wants to try boxing. Are there batches with other girls her age around Begumpet?
no boxing names from me, sorry. a few girls in my school took up kickboxing last year. two quit in a month, one is now the calmest kid in her class. give it a month before buying any gear.
2on Prathibha Vidyaniketan in Habsiguda for class 1 next year. What do the youngest classes do all day?
don't know this school. one tip from the other side of the classroom: on the visit, ask what class 1 does between lunch and home time. everyone shows you the morning. the afternoons tell you more.
0on 11 yr old wants a proper football coach. Apparently I don't count
speaking as a teacher, the kids who get one set of instructions from the coach and another from a parent at home struggle more than either set would cause alone. once she has a coach, you're the driver and the cheering section. hard, i know
6on Two baskets of toys, and our daughter's favourite thing in the house is the jhaadu
ours is around that age and has chosen the dustpan. we're a cleaning family apparently
tell her to ask for a class 4 notebook from last year. ten minutes with that tells you more about homework and english than any visit.
1on Pacifier at night has given us four-hour stretches. My in-laws are horrified
we're using one with the little one too. my mother calls it 'the plug'. stopped at about 8 months with the elder one, three bad nights and done
the comment in front of him is the part I'd address. not with the aunty, with your daughter. ask her how she thinks he felt hearing it. she'll likely have a clearer answer than most of the adults in your lift.
