Two baskets of toys, and our daughter's favourite thing in the house is the jhaadu

dusk_compass_992

Every morning when our didi comes to sweep, our daughter spots the broom and loses her mind. Not the sweeping. The broom. She wants to hold it, wave it, chew the handle and generally be in charge of it. When it's taken away there's a full protest. Didi now sweeps the hall in two shifts, one while the baby is distracted and one while she isn't. We have spent real money on toys.

Mine was the same with the steel ladle. My amma gave him a small one of his own and there was peace in the house. Maybe a small broom just for her? 😄

careful with a small broom, the grass ones shed bits and ours went straight into his mouth. a clean soft dusting brush worked better

The mop bucket, for us. At that age he was in love with it. He's 4 now and still wants to 'help' with mopping. Enjoy it, it's the only stage where anyone volunteers to clean.

Ours fixed on the TV remote and the doorstop. Every new toy got ten minutes. The doorstop got about a year.

my daughter is grown now, and i still remember her sitting very seriously with the coconut broom while our help swept around her. she'd hand it back every time like she was returning something borrowed.

With ours it was the vacuum cleaner, specifically the noise. Is it the sweeping she likes, or holding the thing? That might tell you whether a toy version will satisfy her.

Holding it, definitely. She doesn't care whether anyone is sweeping. She just wants to wave it around like a flag 😂

my mother used to say a child who grabs the broom will run the house one day. my younger one did. she runs the house.
