Pacifier at night has given us four-hour stretches. My in-laws are horrified

ochre_kite_5637

Started a pacifier at night two weeks ago and she now sleeps four hours at a stretch. First time since she was born. In-laws visited on Sunday and the reaction was like we'd done something shameful. Teeth will go crooked, she'll talk late, 'we never needed one'. Not planning to use it forever. But from people who did use one: when did you stop, and was it hard?

'Talk late' based on what? Ask them. Most of these come from a story about one cousin. Four-hour stretches are worth a lot, for her and for you. Decide your stop point now, so you aren't deciding it at 2 am.

Agree with deciding the stop point in advance. We didn't, and ours went on far longer than either of us intended, simply because every night felt like the wrong night to start.

Haan, and tell the in-laws it's temporary even if you don't know when. Our daughter's dadi calmed down completely once we said 'just till six months'. Whether we stuck to it is another matter 🙂

      Replying to @ochre_puzzle_6492

'Just till six months' is going to be my line. Whether it's true, we'll see 🤷

From experience with one child only: we stopped at around ten months by taking it away in the day first and keeping it at night for a few more weeks. Two difficult nights. I can't speak to teeth or speech; that is a question for your paediatrician rather than the family.
