My sister asked me for help with class 9 algebra. I asked for twenty minutes to revise.

1on Renting near BHEL next year and looking at Vidya Bharathi High School for nursery
My sister has done all her schooling at a State Board school in another part of the city, so nothing about this one specifically. One suggestion, though: decide on the house before the school, if you can. When we moved after an admission once, the bus route did not reach the new street and we drove her for a year.
0on Family wants a hall for our daughter's first birthday. We'd like lunch at home
That matches what I saw at my younger sister's first birthday, though I was a college student then and mostly remember carrying return gifts. It was a large function and she has looked at the album perhaps twice. My mother still talks about it, so I would not say it was for nobody. It was simply for the adults.
0on Can you just walk into New Takshasila High School and ask to look around?
I did the school visits for my sister a few years ago, when our parents couldn't take time off. What helped was calling first and asking who handles admissions for the class you want, then asking for that person by role when you go. I also kept a copy of her birth certificate and last report card in the car, because one office wanted to see them before talking about anything else. You may not need them for class 1, but it saves a second trip.
2on Can a class 4 child with no Telugu cope at Bhashyam High School, Habsiguda?
That is the distinction I'll put to my uncle: passing the paper versus actually being able to read. Thank you both. I'll also ask the school directly what support, if any, exists for students joining from outside the state, and report back once I have their answer.
0on Considering State Board for LKG for the first time. Shanti Vidya Niketan in Yousufguda?
Ask the school which curriculum they follow for LKG. Some State Board schools use their own pre-primary books in the early years, and the board only shows up from class 1. That would answer your first question for this school specifically.
I do not have experience with this school. One process question you may want to add: whether they do an assessment for class 1 entry for children coming from a different board. Some schools do a short reading and writing check, and it is better to know before the day.
3on First sleepover invite for my 15 year old. Is this normal now?
From the sibling side: my sister's first sleepover was decided after a family argument that lasted longer than the sleepover itself. My parents agreed in the end on one condition, that she reply to a single message before bed. That small check-in seemed to be enough for everyone.
1on lice again. third time since june for my 6 yr old
The adult point is real. My sister picked it up twice from cousins during family visits before anyone thought to check the grown-ups. Everyone insisted they were fine. Two of them were not.
3on Looking at Shiva Sai Grammar High School in Boduppal for class 5, coming from ICSE
One data point from that side: from Habsiguda my sister's school bus took 25 minutes in May and about 50 since the rains started. If you're timing routes around Boduppal, time them now, not on a dry Sunday.
0on Our 20 year old has stopped coming to family weddings, and I'm the one who gets asked why
I'm about fifteen years ahead of your daughter on this. I skipped nearly every family wedding in my twenties for the same reasons she gives. What brought me back was not being told to come. An uncle asked me to handle one specific thing at one wedding, the guest transport, and suddenly I had a reason to be there and something to talk about other than my marks. If the cousin matters to her, ask whether she'd like a role at that one. And let the other two go.
0on Class 7 books have a QR code on every chapter, and now he 'needs the phone' for homework
My sister's school did the same from class 8. We play the videos on the living room TV, so anyone passing can see the screen, and the phone stays with an adult. It is slower, but nobody 'accidentally' ends up somewhere else. It also showed us that most of the QR videos are optional.
0on 15 year old niece is staying for two weeks, and the 9 year old now wants her bedtime
I'm the older brother of a 14 year old, so I've seen this from the other side. She follows a rule if it's clearly the house rule and applies to everyone, and argues with anything that looks made up for her alone. You could try phones charging in the hall after a fixed hour, for the whole house. Whether a 15 year old guest accepts that, I can't say from experience. My sister mostly does when it's framed that way.
1on good results, and she won't let us celebrate because her best friend's weren't
My sister is two years behind your daughter, and I have been thinking about how we will handle this when her turn comes, since her group of friends is quite mixed in marks. Your daughter sounds like she has her priorities in order. I would only make sure the celebration does happen at some point, so she doesn't learn that her own achievements always have to wait.
0on My sister says 'you're not Abbu' every time I bring up study hours
Update: spoke to them this morning. My father told her about the two hours himself, and I'm on 'doubts only'. She came to me with one geography question at 11 and the house feels noticeably calmer. One day in, so we'll see.
1on My sister says 'you're not Abbu' every time I bring up study hours
That distinction makes sense. I think I agreed to the enforcer role without noticing. I'll talk to my parents in the morning and suggest they set the hours while I stay available for questions.
3on 10 yr old has banned my singing in the car when her friends are in it
I can confirm this from the sibling side. My sister is fourteen and I drive her to tuition on Saturdays. Alone with me she sings everything. If a friend gets in, I am told to keep my hands on the wheel and not speak. I assumed it was about me, but apparently our father gets the same treatment.
1on Our UKG daughter shares the van with class 9 boys, and came home with a new word
My sister is in class 8, and I can tell you the boys most likely have no idea the little ones are listening. A quiet word from an adult usually works better than a complaint through the school. If the van attender is willing, she could simply tell them a UKG girl has started repeating things. Most boys that age would be mortified.
