good results, and she won't let us celebrate because her best friend's weren't

velvet_gecko_5468

her class 10 results came out and she did well. better than she expected. her best friend didn't, by a lot, and they've been messaging all evening. we'd planned dinner out. she said no, she doesn't want photos going around while her friend is upset. i'm proud of her for that and also a bit sad she isn't letting herself have the day. haven't said anything yet. don't know what i'd say

Same thing happened with my son two years back. His friend failed in one subject, so my son also did not celebrate. We kept sweets at home only, no function, no status. After the friend cleared the supplementary exam, then my son was happy. Give some time. She is a good girl.

the sweets at home part is right. ours had something similar last year. we did a cake on a random weekday a few weeks later. she still brings up that cake

  • maybe ask her when she'd like to celebrate instead of whether. then it's hers to decide

My sister is two years behind your daughter, and I have been thinking about how we will handle this when her turn comes, since her group of friends is quite mixed in marks. Your daughter sounds like she has her priorities in order. I would only make sure the celebration does happen at some point, so she doesn't learn that her own achievements always have to wait.
