First sleepover invite for my 15 year old. Is this normal now?

quiet_sketch_8443

Elder one's friend has invited four girls to stay over at her place after the half-yearlies end. Movies, pizza, the usual. I've met the mother once at a PTM, she seemed nice. Neither of us did sleepovers growing up, and amma is already making faces on the phone. The younger one is watching closely, because whatever we decide becomes her rule in two years 🙂 How do other families handle this?

We said yes for the first time this year. Called the host parents beforehand, just a normal chat: who all are coming, what time pickup is in the morning. Beta was a bit embarrassed that I called, but it settled my mind.

We've settled on a middle option for our 13 year old for now: she stays for dinner and the movie, and we pick her up at ten. I'd be interested to hear from parents whose daughters did stay the night how it went.

Talking to the host mother first is the main thing. After that it's a night of movies.

From the sibling side: my sister's first sleepover was decided after a family argument that lasted longer than the sleepover itself. My parents agreed in the end on one condition, that she reply to a single message before bed. That small check-in seemed to be enough for everyone.

This is more question than answer, since our son is younger: is the hesitation about this particular house, or about sleepovers in general? It helped us to separate the two when our son got his first invitation for a weekend away with another family.
