My sister says 'you're not Abbu' every time I bring up study hours

My sister starts class 9 in June. Our parents leave most school matters to me, and they've asked me to make sure she does 'some study' every day until school reopens. We agreed on two hours in the mornings. In practice it's twenty minutes, and when I point that out, the answer is 'you're not Abbu'. She isn't wrong. I don't want to become the household policeman, but I also said yes to my parents. For anyone who has seen an older sibling try this role: does it work at all, or should I hand it back?

  • two sons 2 yrs apart here. when the older one tried to supervise the younger ones study it lasted a week and they didnt speak for two days after. what worked better was the older one helping with specific things when asked, maths mostly, and us keeping the rules part. if your parents want the rule they should say it to her themselves. you can be the help, not the enforcer

That distinction makes sense. I think I agreed to the enforcer role without noticing. I'll talk to my parents in the morning and suggest they set the hours while I stay available for questions.

Update: spoke to them this morning. My father told her about the two hours himself, and I'm on 'doubts only'. She came to me with one geography question at 11 and the house feels noticeably calmer. One day in, so we'll see.
