Looking at Shiva Sai Grammar High School in Boduppal for class 5, coming from ICSE

basil_pigeon_5161

We're in Tellapur, and most of my company's current projects are on the Uppal side now. The drive is eating my days. Nothing is decided, but we're looking at what moving east would mean for our daughter. She's in class 4, ICSE, and doing well. Shiva Sai Grammar High School in Boduppal is State Board and near a couple of the areas we're considering. My worry is less the syllabus and more how marks work. Her school does a lot of projects and answers in her own words, and I keep hearing that State Board is about reproducing the textbook exactly. For anyone whose child made this kind of move around class 5, how did they take to it?

'I keep hearing' is carrying most of that sentence. Ask the school to show you a corrected class 5 answer sheet from last year with the name covered. In five minutes you'll see whether they mark for the textbook line or for understanding. That's worth more than anything said in this thread, mine included.

We bought a flat in Nallagandla and kept our son in his old school because of his friends. Now the bus takes more than one hour each way and he is tired every evening. If you move, I would move the school at the same time, even if it is mid-year. Don't do what we did.

One data point from that side: from Habsiguda my sister's school bus took 25 minutes in May and about 50 since the rains started. If you're timing routes around Boduppal, time them now, not on a dry Sunday.

      Replying to @ochre_drum_9139

Seconding the timing advice. We did our route checks in March for our daughter's preschool and the same drive is nearly double now. I'd also check where the van stops in practice versus the map they hand out.

Tellapur here as well, and our daughter goes to a State Board school, English medium, so I can speak to the board side. In the middle classes there was more learning by heart than I liked, but most of her teachers accepted answers in her own words as long as the points were there. It varied by teacher more than by board. The thing to plan for is Telugu as a subject, if she hasn't had it till now. A child doing well in class 4 will adjust ❤️
