Class 7 books have a QR code on every chapter, and now he 'needs the phone' for homework

New textbooks came with QR codes linking to videos and extra questions. Fair enough. Problem is, our rule was no phone till homework is done, and now the phone is part of the homework. Last night I sat next to him for one 'QR video'. Twenty minutes later he was watching cricket highlights that autoplayed after it. According to him it 'just came'. My partner wants to keep the old rule and ignore the codes. I feel the codes are part of the course now. Anyone found a middle way? Old phone with nothing on it, laptop in the hall, something?

My sister's school did the same from class 8. We play the videos on the living room TV, so anyone passing can see the screen, and the phone stays with an adult. It is slower, but nobody 'accidentally' ends up somewhere else. It also showed us that most of the QR videos are optional.

old phone, wifi only, no apps except a browser with the school site bookmarked. our elder one hated it for two weeks and then forgot about it

I work with schools on content, and in my experience most of those QR links go to the publisher's own videos and very few teachers check whether children watched them. So your partner isn't wrong, the core homework is still in the book. I'd let him scan only when he's stuck on something, not by default :)
