0on Class 12 son wants to stop attending school after the preboards and study at home
ours is in intermediate second year so a bit different, college expects them in till the end and takes attendance seriously. he grumbles but goes what i noticed is the days he stays home 'to study' he studies maybe 4 hours and the rest is phone and fridge. at college at least the day has a shape. maybe let him try one home week after preboards and look at what actually got done. not what he says got done 🤷
0on daughter's choosing between a master's abroad and one here, and i don't know what to ask
ask her what she'd do in month three if she hates it. if she has an answer she's ready. if she says she won't hate it have another chat 🤷
2on small annaprashan lunch for about 20 near begumpet, anyone who does bengali food properly?
not bengali so cant help with the menu. but the puja pandals on the secunderabad side will be setting up around now and the food counters there are usually run by home caterers. ask at one. a colleague sorted her son's rice ceremony food that way a couple of years back and was happy with it
1on 14 yr old tells every relative 'not medicine' before anyone asks
agree on the no medical jokes. my son is 16 and at some point i realised the relatives were the problem not me. every uncle asking him about neet. i started answering for him at functions, something light, change the subject, and after a while he stopped needing to announce anything
6on Relatives think my daughter's legs are bowed. She has only just started standing
I'm an orthopaedic surgeon and this is one of the commonest worries families bring in. A lot of babies look bow legged when they first stand. That said I can't see your daughter and your paediatrician can, so bring it up yourself at the visit in three weeks instead of waiting for them to mention it. If something changes before then, go earlier. The massage won't do any harm but I wouldn't expect it to change anything either
4on 1 month old only sleeps in the car. any good slow loops around jubilee hills?
did this 16 years ago in a maruti. trick is never stop at the gate, he always knew. circle once more then park 🤷
0on Keeping St. Alphonsus in Banjara Hills in mind for class 3. Is State Board primary really lighter?
son did english medium state board all the way, different school, now in inter. telugu is compulsory as a subject, that part is real, check it early. the rest wasn't lighter or heavier, just different. more written work, fewer projects. can't speak for st alphonsus
2on Every time I hold our 1 month old she tries to feed off my shirt, then gets furious with me
facing out worked for us too. also it's fine to hand her back when she gets like that. i spent weeks thinking i had to win every round. you don't 🤷
son's been state board start to finish, now in inter. primary years were relaxed for us, the real load came from class 8 on. no regrets about the early years
My son's coaching institute uses the exact brochure language, different subject. 'Recognised' usually means the training company recognises itself. Ask how many of last year's students put it on a CV and were asked about it.
2on Sanghamitra in Kukatpally for our son's nursery, while his sister stays where she is
a van solves most of this if one comes to gopanpally. we've used the same school van since my son was in class 1, best decision we made
3on Our cook's food has twice the oil of mine, and now my son only wants hers
small bottle trick works. we also asked our cook to make one dish a day 'for the doctor', meaning me. less oil in that one, and everyone ended up eating it
1on our grandson's parents have sent us a list of rules for the days he stays with us
my parents got one from us when our son was small. they followed about half. he turned out fine and they still bring it up years later. i'd keep the sweets one and the nap one and let the rest be a conversation not a list
0on Carrier that doesn't wreck a tall dad's back? She's 5 months and heavier every week
the waist belt should take most of the weight, not the shoulders. no proper belt and that's your answer. i see plenty of sore dads in clinic, nearly all of them carrying high on the straps
6on sat through my nephew's engineering counselling and understood nothing. mine is 13
my son just joined inter first year so this is fresh. the coaching centres started calling when he was in class 8, foundation this, olympiad that. we ignored most of it and he's fine. class 9 is early for any of it. what helped more was him knowing what he liked by class 10, not us knowing the system
2on I'm a physician and my teenager fact-checks me against a fitness influencer
doing this with my son about creatine right now. looking at it together works better than me quoting papers. he stops listening the moment i sound like work
0on Chenda classes in Hyderabad for a 9 year old who came back from Kerala wanting to learn
one of the theatre nurses at my hospital takes her son to a sunday class through an association, somewhere on the secunderabad side. can ask her which one
6on Waist-length hair since she was a baby, and now she wants a chin-length cut
Ask the salon to keep the cut hair in case her grandmother wants it. Some families donate it. Small thing, but it gave my mother something to do with her feelings when my son shaved his head for a cricket bet.
3on My 10 year old repeated a 'joke' about girls at dinner. He didn't understand half of it
The bus is where ours picked up all of it too. We didn't go to the school. We just kept talking at home whenever something came back from the bus, and by 13 he was the one rolling his eyes at the older boys. It took a few rounds, not one conversation.
2on Boards are over, and our son has discovered old Tamil films. Dinner now comes with dialogue
ours finished boards too. his discovery is my old cricket dvds. i now know more about 1996 than i did in 1996
