Class 12 son wants to stop attending school after the preboards and study at home

Our elder one is in class 12 (CBSE). His preboards are in December and he's already told us that after them he'd like to stay home and study rather than go in every day. Several of his friends are apparently planning the same. His argument is that the last couple of months of school are mostly revision he can do faster on his own. The school hasn't said much officially yet, only that attendance requirements apply. He's managing his own prep well and I'd hate to treat him like he's 12. But I also don't know how much of 'everyone is staying home' is true and how much is teenage logic. How did this go in your house? Did you allow it, insist on school, or work out something in between?

ours is in intermediate second year so a bit different, college expects them in till the end and takes attendance seriously. he grumbles but goes what i noticed is the days he stays home 'to study' he studies maybe 4 hours and the rest is phone and fridge. at college at least the day has a shape. maybe let him try one home week after preboards and look at what actually got done. not what he says got done 🤷

the phone and fridge part is accurate. mine's 17 too and already sure she'll do the same in jan

The trial week is a fair idea, thank you. Much easier to look at one week of actual work than argue about a hypothetical two months. I'll put it to him as a deal and see if he takes it ❤️

Agree with the trial week. Also check with the school what attendance they need for the board admit card, so there's no surprise in Feb. My daughter is in 11th and her school already brought it up at the PTM.
