Thinking about state board for our younger one. Anyone with children in the early classes at Srujana High School?

Our younger daughter is in class 1 at a CBSE school and the written work is getting to her. Tears over copying, most evenings. My partner teaches at a CBSE school, and one of the colleagues there has both children at Srujana High School in Uppal. Hearing that parent describe their evenings made us wonder whether state board in the first few years might suit her better. We're in KPHB, so Uppal itself would be a big change, and I know one family's experience isn't the whole picture. What I'm really after is hearing from parents with children at Srujana, or in state board primary generally: what's a class 1 or 2 day like, and how much writing is there?

We're in Habsiguda, not far from Uppal, but our daughter has been IB throughout, so I can't speak for Srujana. One thing from watching friends: compare the textbooks themselves before deciding anything. A family we know switched expecting less work and found it was mostly different work.

ICSE here and class 1 had tears over copying too. Eased in class 2 once her writing speed caught up. Not saying don't look, just that it could be the age as much as the board.

I work on curriculum, so this is the first thing I'd do: the state board textbooks for the early classes are published online by the state education department, so you can read the class 1 and 2 books before visiting anywhere. Count how many written exercises there are per chapter and how much copying they expect. That will tell you more than any one family's evenings.

son's been state board start to finish, now in inter. primary years were relaxed for us, the real load came from class 8 on. no regrets about the early years

That's useful to hear from someone who went all the way through. Did he need tuition at any point before class 8? That's the other thing we're hoping to avoid this early.

Interesting to read. We stayed ICSE all the way and found the reverse: heavy written work early, so class 9 felt like less of a jump because she was used to it. Both routes seem to work. The load just arrives at a different time.

Before switching boards, maybe ask her class teacher what exactly she's finding hard. Our older one cried over copying in UKG and it turned out she couldn't see the board properly from the back row. Seat changed, problem gone ♥
