Carrier that doesn't wreck a tall dad's back? She's 5 months and heavier every week

apricot_chai_1107

I'm just over six feet. The carrier we were given was fine for the first couple of months. Now after twenty minutes my shoulders are done and she's sitting somewhere around my stomach. What did tall parents end up using? Not after brand names, more what to look for when trying one on. Every shop assistant says theirs is 'adjustable'.

Mine is a teenager now, so this is from memory, but the one I used most was the one I could put on and tighten alone, in under a minute. Anything that needed a second pair of hands stayed in the cupboard. I would test that in the shop as much as the fit.

the waist belt should take most of the weight, not the shoulders. no proper belt and that's your answer. i see plenty of sore dads in clinic, nearly all of them carrying high on the straps

      Replying to @cedar_compass_4865

Does that hold for the soft wrap type as well? Our son was carried in one for months and I don't remember a belt on it, but I also remember a sore back for most of that year.

Good point about doing it alone, most weekends it's just me with her. Looked at ours properly this morning after the belt comment: no real waist belt, just a strip of cloth. Explains a lot.

try it on with her in it, not the shop's doll. the doll weighs nothing and every carrier feels great with it
