my nephew finished 12th this year and i went along last week to help with his options. two days of cutoffs, ranks, branches, colleges i'd never heard of. came home, looked at my daughter doing her holiday homework and realised i have no idea how any of this works, or when we're supposed to start knowing. she's going into class 9, state board. not planning to do anything yet. just a bit unsettled

my son just joined inter first year so this is fresh. the coaching centres started calling when he was in class 8, foundation this, olympiad that. we ignored most of it and he's fine. class 9 is early for any of it. what helped more was him knowing what he liked by class 10, not us knowing the system

They call from class 6 here, foundation batches for eleven year olds 🙂 Ignore, yes. My elder one is in class 10 now and the only useful thing so far was one long chat with a cousin who is doing the course she was curious about. Better than any seminar we paid for.

My daughter is in second year BiPC. I also understood nothing when she chose. Everyone told us BiPC means doctor. Now her mock test scores are low and only now I am learning there are many other courses, pharmacy, agriculture, nursing, which nobody explained to us in class 9 or 10. So my suggestion is know the options early, even if you don't decide anything.
