Daughter's college is pushing an 'industry-recognised' add-on certificate. Recognised by which industry?

My daughter goes into her second year of a BA in economics this month. The department has sent a note about an optional add-on certificate in business analytics, run with an outside training company, classes every Saturday for the whole semester. The brochure says 'industry-recognised' four times and does not name a single employer that recognises it. She is inclined to sign up because half her class is. I'm not against it. I teach languages, so I have no idea what a recruiter in that field looks at. What I'd like to know from people who hire, or whose children went through something similar: did one of these certificates ever come up in an interview? Or is it the project done during the course that matters, if anything does?

I sit on a fair number of interview panels for freshers. In five or six years I can't remember a certificate deciding anything on its own. What does come up is when a candidate says 'in that course I built a dashboard from this data' and can talk it through for ten minutes without notes. So I'd ask the department two things: does the course end with a project she does herself or a multiple-choice test, and can she see what last year's batch made. If it's videos plus a quiz, those Saturdays are worth more spent elsewhere. If there's real work at the end, it might be worth it even with the vague brochure.

My son's coaching institute uses the exact brochure language, different subject. 'Recognised' usually means the training company recognises itself. Ask how many of last year's students put it on a CV and were asked about it.
