We picked for both our kids around the older one's school calendar. Same holidays, same exam weeks, one set of early mornings. With a daughter in high school and a son in primary, it saved me a lot of juggling. Worth checking whether Glendale's calendar matches her brother's school.
0on From ICSE to State Board in class 1. Anyone done this at St. Johns Global Edu-Tech in Uppal?
We're also in Malkajgiri. My son changed schools in class 3, different board as well. For the first month everything was 'not like my old school', by the second month it stopped. What helped most was one boy from our colony being in the same section.
6on 6 month old's first cup: steel tumbler, sippy or straw? Every relative has a vote
What caused trouble for us was everyone using something different on the same day. The helper had one cup, the grandparents another, and he got fussy about all of them. We picked one and told everyone. Which one mattered much less than sticking to it.
0on 6 year old cries in the car before every karate class, then doesn't want to leave
My son was like this at that age, every single class. It stopped on its own around the time he made one friend there. Is there another child she knows in the batch?
0on Grade 5 daughter gets picked last for teams in PE. She told me like it was the weather
My son had a year of this in class 4. What helped a bit was the PE teacher switching to numbered groups instead of captains picking. I only found out it was possible because I mentioned it at a PTM. Might be worth asking how teams are made.
The one thing I'd worry about is the coding struggle. If CS is hard for her now, will she enjoy it more in class 12 when it gets harder? I haven't been through this with my own daughter yet, but my nephew dropped CS for PE in 11th for exactly that reason and was much happier. What does her CS teacher say?
2on Huda High School is walkable for us. Anyone walk a nursery child there?
We did walkable for the younger one and a bus for the older one, so I've seen both. Walking won on rain days, because I could just pick him up and go. The bus won on days I had to be at the store early. With alternating office days, whoever is home does the walk. It settled into a pattern faster than I expected.
1on Weighing SR digi School in Champapet, in case my work pulls us across the city
ICSE to CBSE at 4 or 5 is a non-issue, they're still learning letters and numbers. What would keep me up is the other thing you mentioned, no family nearby and a parent on delivery calls. Whichever school you pick, work out what happens on the days pickup goes wrong. That's what wore us down when both of us had long days.
1on Our two hear almost no Telugu at home. Would the early classes at Sujatha High School be hard going?
Can't speak for Sujatha specifically. We're Tamil at home and our son started Telugu in class 1 with nothing. He reads slowly even now, going into class 4, but he gets through. The writing came before the reading for him, oddly.
0on rainbow montessori in khairatabad for next year, so his nani can do pickups?
We visited a few Montessori-named schools when my son was small, not this one. Timings for the little ones varied a lot from place to place, so do ask them directly rather than going by the name. Also check what they need for a grandparent pickup. Most places we saw wanted an authorisation card with a photo.
2on First week at cricket nets. He fielded the whole time and now calls himself a 'specialist fielder'
Please don't give him ideas, sunglasses are already next on his list 😄
0on Shift work and a 3.30 pickup. Would Guru Nanak High School in Narayanaguda suit class 3 next year?
No experience with this school, sorry. Since pickup is the real problem, I'd ask about the primary timings before anything else. When we were comparing schools for my son, two of them let the small classes out earlier than the big ones, which would have undone the whole reason for moving. After that, whether class 3 children use school buses or private vans.
3on 3 yr old loves her football class except the whistle. she cries every time
Agree, don't stop. My son was scared of the school bell in UKG, we let him ring it once on a visit and it became 'his' bell. Maybe the coach can let her blow the whistle at the end of class?
4on admissions season at my school. every parent tour ends with 'and where do your boys study?'
Keeping it simple, yes. But as a parent on those tours I'd want to hear the real reason. When we were looking for my daughter's school, one teacher told us her own kids were at a smaller place near home. I trusted everything else she said after that.
One practical thing. At our bank we had to be joint holders, and she couldn't use the app herself till she was older. She lost interest for a while because she couldn't see the balance without asking us. So check what she'll be able to see on her own before you pick a bank. Once she could see it, she started checking it every week ❤️
0on Do many families from the Nizampet side send their children to Akshara International in Suchitra?
Our elder one did a 50 minute bus ride from class 1 because we wanted that school. She got used to it within a month. The surprise was how early she had to sleep, and how little of the evening was left for anything else. So it's possible, but count what it costs the evening.
0on caught my 11 yr old writing his holiday book review off the back cover
Our daughter tried this till about class 8. What helped was reading the first chapter together, out loud, taking turns. After that she usually wanted to know what happened. Ten minutes, a few evenings. Not more in the holidays ❤
4on Gyan Bharthi High School in Himayatnagar. can a child join in LKG or only from nursery?
Late April is when many schools are finishing their LKG lists, so I'd phone them on Monday instead of waiting for replies here. When our son joined LKG at a new school they asked for a short interaction and the playschool report, nothing more.
2on She rubs out every line until the page tears
Our elder one was just like this in primary. What helped a bit was a rough book. First attempt there, as messy as she liked, then she copied it into the real notebook once. Fewer rubbings in the final copy, fewer tears. She's a teenager now and still a perfectionist, but these days it's colour-coded notes 💛
