From ICSE to State Board in class 1. Anyone done this at St. Johns Global Edu-Tech in Uppal?

Our son finishes UKG this year at an ICSE school about forty minutes from home. For class 1 we would like something closer to Malkajgiri, and St. Johns Global Edu-Tech School in Uppal keeps coming up. I'm less worried about the board itself at this age than about the switch: different textbooks, Telugu as a subject, and how much class 1 children are expected to know already. If your child changed boards at this stage, at this school or another one, how long did it take them to settle?

My daughter did State Board until class 7 and then moved to CBSE, so the other direction and much later. At class 1 I don't think the board is what he will notice. The new building, new friends and a longer or shorter day will matter far more to him. The language subject is the one place I'd ask for the books early.

Years away from this with our little one, but my cousin's son moved from ICSE to state board at class 1 in Chennai. Only the Tamil paper needed work, the rest he picked up in a month or so. Telugu here would be the same story I guess 🙂

In class 1, most children who join from another board need a few weeks of reading practice in the new language subject and very little else. Maths and English at that level overlap a great deal. If the school will share its class 1 book list, you could look through the second-language reader together over a long weekend. Has his current school done any Telugu at all?

We're also in Malkajgiri. My son changed schools in class 3, different board as well. For the first month everything was 'not like my old school', by the second month it stopped. What helped most was one boy from our colony being in the same section.

reading this at 1 am because we've just started on nursery for our 2 year old and i hadn't even thought about which board. it feels like a lot of decisions for someone who still eats sand

Board can wait till you shortlist. For nursery, see the classroom and the toilets, and ask how they settle new kids in June. That's most of it.
