Daughter wants to switch from computer science to PE in class 11. School allows changes till month end

basil_veranda_1863

She chose computer science in April. Three months in, she wants PE because 'everyone says it's scoring' and some of her friends are in it. She's PCM, so CS fits, but she's struggling with the coding assignments and says PE would free up time for physics. I need specifics, not 'follow her passion'. Did your child take PE as the fifth subject? Was it the easy marks people claim? Did it matter later for admissions or anything else? Deadline is the end of this month.

no experience with 11th yet, my son's in 10th. but a lot of his seniors took pe in 11th and from what i hear the practicals are real work, fitness tests and all, not free marks. depends on whether she likes being on the field.

The one thing I'd worry about is the coding struggle. If CS is hard for her now, will she enjoy it more in class 12 when it gets harder? I haven't been through this with my own daughter yet, but my nephew dropped CS for PE in 11th for exactly that reason and was much happier. What does her CS teacher say?

CS teacher says she's 'capable but not putting in the time'. Which is what every teacher says. I'll ask for her marks on the assignments so far.

Can she switch back if PE doesn't suit her either, or is this the final word?

We're in Ahmedabad and moving to Hyderabad next year, so I read this group a lot. My daughter is in class 12 on the biology side and took physical education as her fifth subject in 11th. For her it worked because the theory was manageable and she needed the hours for chemistry. The practical and fitness part took more effort than her friends had promised. For medical entrance it hasn't mattered at all, as far as we know. For engineering or CS courses later, check whether any college wants CS specifically. With PCM she has maths anyway.
