2on Do parents at Sree Aditya High School get to see the corrected answer sheets?
Seeing the paper helps only if you go through it in five minutes and then stop. My older one dreaded the paper review more than the exam itself. What exactly do you plan to do with it once you have it?
1on Grandparents want our 2 year old's ears pierced before Diwali
What is the actual objection: pain, infection risk, or that she can't agree to it? Those have different answers, and the family will keep arguing past you until you know which one it is for you.
0on 15 year old wants to go on a week-long Himalayan trek over the Dasara break with an adventure group
Ask for their safety record in writing, and for the name of a parent from a previous batch you can call. A decent company will have both ready. If they hesitate, that is your answer.
3on 15 year old's glasses power went up again, and he's stopped wearing them in class
Moving him closer without announcing it is the right kind of help. I'll email the class teacher. If it's announced, he'll stop wearing them at home too.
0on Elder one wants college anywhere but Hyderabad because his friends are looking at Pune and Bengaluru
Ask him to name three courses he'd want in each city. If he can't, it's the friends. If he can, take it seriously. And he will be sick at 2 am at some point whether he's in Pune or in a hostel forty minutes from you. That worry isn't really about distance.
1on Daughter wants to join the merchant navy. She wears glasses.
Before the eyesight question, ask her what part of it she likes. The sea, the travel, the uniform, the speaker? At 14 that changes the answer. If it holds for six months, then look up the medical rules properly.
0on My 8 year old wants to draw like me. Art class, or just sketch together on weekends?
What does he want: to draw well, or to sit next to you? The answer changes everything. If it's the second, a class won't replace it.
What's the other option on his list? 'Everyone is' may be the reason he gave you, not the reason he has. Ask what he'd pick if none of his friends were taking anything.
6on ICSE daughter wants humanities in 11th, and her school's ISC only has science and commerce
Before the school search, one question. Has she looked at what she'd study in those subjects for two years, or is the choice mainly 'not science and not commerce'? Both are fine reasons, but they lead to different schools. Ours is in class 10 too. We asked him to name three subjects he'd pick and why. It took him a week.
1on Son is in his IB final year and wants a gap year before college
What does 'work' mean here? Paid, unpaid, which field? Ask for that before you debate whether it's a good idea.
0on Violin teacher wants our 7 year old to take a graded exam after one year of lessons
Ask what happens if she doesn't take it. If she can carry on learning exactly as she is now, you lose nothing by saying not yet.
1on Our caregiver keeps telling us about Red Convent High School in Musheerabad. Worth a look?
Distance first. KPHB to Musheerabad at school hours is a long ride for a child that age, twice a day. If that rules it out, the useful question is the one underneath: what about the CBSE homework isn't working for her? That might be fixable without changing boards.
1on Our bedtime chat is apparently 'for kids' now
What did he object to, the bedroom or the talking? Those aren't the same thing. Mine dropped bedtime and started talking in the car instead, as long as nobody looked at him.
2on new daycare wants a 'settling interaction' with her before they confirm the seat
Or they're checking she isn't unwell and can be put down for five minutes without a meltdown. That's about all you can see in a toddler. If they say they assess 'readiness', ask them what they'd do with the answer.
What does 'by then' mean to her? If she agrees it's a problem, it shifts quickly. If it's only your plan, she'll keep the calls and just be tired. With my elder one, we moved the calls to the cousins' mornings, which is our evening, and the sleep followed in about a week.
Get the college to write down which document they mean. 'Original' to a clerk can mean a printout with a stamp on it. Until it's in writing you're arguing with a phrase.
0on 16 yr old asked us not to put his class 10 results on the family group
Ask him what exactly he doesn't want shared. The total, the subjects, or the fact of the results at all. Those are three different things and you can agree on one.
0on Odissi teacher anywhere near Himayatnagar who takes a 4 year old?
What would 'put her off' look like, in your guess? My younger one did a movement class at three and a half, and the only thing that put him off was the 5 pm slot, when he was always tired and hungry. The dance form mattered much less than the timing.
4on Keeping our toddler in daycare while I'm off for the summer and my partner isn't
What do you mean by 'lose the routine'? Nap times and meals you can keep at home. If you mean the drop-off, a toddler who's been away six weeks will cry for a few days whatever you do. That's not a reason to pay for days you'd rather spend with him.
How firm is the rental? If it's still a maybe, I'd keep a nursery option near where you live now as well. Shortlisting schools in an area you haven't moved to can make the move feel decided before it is.
0on She's 14 and has decided on marine biology. We live about as far from the sea as you can get
What exactly does she like, the animals or the science? Those are different things. A lot of marine biology is data and lab work, often nowhere near a beach. Before any course, get her to read accounts by people who do the job and see whether she still wants what they spend their days on.
1on Pacifier at night has given us four-hour stretches. My in-laws are horrified
'Talk late' based on what? Ask them. Most of these come from a story about one cousin. Four-hour stretches are worth a lot, for her and for you. Decide your stop point now, so you aren't deciding it at 2 am.
4on 13 and he's outgrown everything since Diwali. He won't come shopping with me
That works for trousers. Shoes I wouldn't buy without trying in a shop, growing feet are hard to guess. We made shoes a quick separate trip on the understanding that he chooses and I only pay.
