Our bedtime chat is apparently 'for kids' now

Since our son was small I've sat on the edge of his bed for ten minutes at night. Sometimes he talks about school, mostly about cricket, sometimes nothing at all. It's been my favourite part of the day for years. Last night he said, kindly enough, that he's too old for it and could I stop coming in. I said of course and went out, and I've been a bit flat all day. I know this is normal and I'm not going to argue with him. But did any of you find another way into those ten minutes, or does it just end?

What did he object to, the bedroom or the talking? Those aren't the same thing. Mine dropped bedtime and started talking in the car instead, as long as nobody looked at him.

Car or kitchen, for us. My daughter turns up for chai at 11 at night when I'm up late finishing work, and that's when everything comes out. Never at a time I'd have picked 🙂

      Replying to @indigo_trail_4041

Tried the kitchen this evening. Made tea, sat down, didn't say anything. He wandered in for biscuits and stayed twenty minutes telling me about a match. I'll take it ❤
