0on First mottai at the family temple, 9 months old, 6 hour drive. How did your baby handle it?
The cap part is so true. Our son pulled off every cap we tried, so we ended up covering his head with a thin cotton towel and shading him with a dupatta. Worth carrying both just in case ❤️
6on Preferred school day ends at 2.15, our caregiver leaves at 2. Pay the admission fee anyway?
Does the school itself run anything after 2.15? Some do, some don't, and it changes the whole plan ❤️
1on 214 unread messages in the class group and nobody knows the homework
My son's group spent one full evening voting on a new group name. Homework still unknown ❤️
0on Called a daycare about their waitlist. First question was the baby's name
Ha ❤ Did they at least put you down as 'Baby'?
2on My elder son has gone quiet since his baby brother arrived. Or is it just the age?
Same age here and no sibling at all. The short answers started this year. Bedtime is when he talks for us, lights off, ten minutes ❤
1on Egg twice a week at daycare from Monday, and we haven't tried it at home yet
ask them to wait, it's a normal request. we tried new foods at home on a saturday so we had the whole weekend to see how it went
0on Losing marks for spelling 'photosynthesis' wrong in a science paper. Is that usual?
can he spell them right if he says them out loud letter by letter? my son can, but in a paper he writes fast and drops letters. slowing him down a bit helped more than the word lists. he still grumbles about it
3on Class 6 and integers have completely thrown her. Minus minus is plus?
Bookmarking for next year, when my son gets there. The money example never worked for him either. We tried it for fractions and it only gave him more numbers to keep in his head ❤️
0on buying a flat now with a baby. how much should nearby schools matter
Agree, but I'd add one thing: check the morning traffic towards the schools you might use, not just the distance. We're 4 km from our son's school and some days it's 35 minutes.
0on Daycare says our son has fewer words than others his age. Wait till two, or get him checked now?
That's a fair way to look at it. Did the daycare say what they're comparing him on though? Words he says, or understanding too? From what you've written his understanding sounds fine. Might be worth asking them that before booking anything
2on Sri Chaitanya in Attapur for LKG next year. How much written work do the little ones get?
The notebook idea is a good one. Did the school that showed you also let you see a homework diary? That's where the real load showed up for my son in the early classes ❤️
1on Four minutes with the class teacher at our first PTM. How do you make that time useful?
Do the subject teachers sit at separate tables at your school? Ours had only the class teacher this time, the rest were 'available on request', which nobody in that queue had time for. Wondering if that's normal from class 6 on
1on New boy in my son's class is visually impaired. My son wants to help and keeps getting it wrong
Please update when you can? My son would do exactly the same at his age. I'd like to know which words worked.
3on We stopped checking the boys' homework diaries in class 6. How it went, years later
Did you tell the boys you'd spoken to the teacher? I'm wondering if my son would feel it was being done behind his back
1on Our younger one speaks mostly Malayalam at home. Would he manage at St Anthonys in Himayatnagar?
In my son's class there was always a mix of home languages. Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, a couple of Malayali kids. The children sorted it out among themselves faster than the parents did ❤
2on Grade 3 runs a 'class economy' with paper money, and she's already in debt to two classmates
Did the teacher let him charge interest? Asking because mine would.
2on Any toddler rhyme or music group around Secunderabad that does Hindi or Urdu songs?
Haven't come across one in Hindi or Urdu, sorry. When my son was little we had the same problem with Telugu songs, and in the end my mother-in-law started singing with three other kids from our building on Sunday evenings. Maybe there are other parents near you looking for the same thing ❤️
0on He's 10, watched one horror clip at a friend's place, and now the light stays on all night
On her own terms sounds about right. That helps a bit, thank you ❤️
0on He's 10, watched one horror clip at a friend's place, and now the light stays on all night
Asked him. It's a figure standing behind someone in a mirror. So the mirror on his cupboard door now has his cricket poster over it, and last night he managed with only the corridor light.
4on I get home at 8 and she's already asleep. Should I move my whole day earlier?
We moved bedtime to 8.30 for a few months so the late parent could do bath and bed. It worked well until he started playschool. Might be easier than changing your work hours, if your partner is fine with a later night.
A colleague's son went to a state board school in Khairatabad for KG, I'm not sure which one. What she found mattered most was the class size in nursery, not the method. Ask how many children there are in a nursery section when the time comes.
0on LKG letter says she should be toilet trained by June. She isn't anywhere close
Summer is the easiest time to try. Fewer clothes, and everything dries in an hour on the balcony. We did ours in May with my mother at home. Took about three weeks before it mostly stuck. Nights came much later, but schools only care about the day ❤️
1on Restaurant near Financial District where a 2 year old can be loud at Sunday lunch?
Not a restaurant tip as such, but when ours was small we switched to brunch at 11 instead of lunch at 1. Half-empty tables, quicker food, and he wasn't tired yet. Most places felt a lot more relaxed at that hour.
