He's 10, watched one horror clip at a friend's place, and now the light stays on all night

Last week my son watched a short horror clip on a friend's phone at their flat. Since then he wants his room light on all night, and twice he has come to our bed at 2 am. He's 10. I thought we were done with this at 6. I said yes to the light, but I'm not sure I should have agreed so fast. My partner thinks we should switch it off once he's asleep. Does this pass on its own, or do we need to do something?

What exactly did he see? Ask him to describe it before deciding anything. With my daughter it turned out to be one specific picture: a face at a window. Once we drew the curtains properly every night, she didn't need the light on at all.

This matches what we saw. It was never the dark itself, it was one picture stuck in the head. Ours slept with the corridor light on for about a month, then one night switched it off herself, and nobody said a word about it.

Asked him. It's a figure standing behind someone in a mirror. So the mirror on his cupboard door now has his cricket poster over it, and last night he managed with only the corridor light.

  • mine went through this at 9 after a ghost story at camp. took about a month. now she switches the light off herself, on her own terms

On her own terms sounds about right. That helps a bit, thank you ❤️
