Froebels High School is a short walk from us. Does the nursery follow Froebel's ideas, or is it just the name?

We live in Domalguda, and Froebels High School in Khairatabad is close enough that it will come up when we start looking for nursery. Our daughter is only a few months old, so this is early, I know. The name caught my attention. Froebel was the person behind the idea of kindergarten, with play, blocks and gardens at the centre of it. I'm curious whether the school's early years work that way in any sense, or whether the name was chosen long ago and the nursery runs like most others. I'm not assuming either. I would simply like to hear from anyone who knows the KG section.

Names tell you very little. Visit and look at the KG rooms in the middle of a school morning. Are the children at tables with worksheets, or on the floor with things in their hands? That answers it.

Many of the older schools in the city carry names like this. My own school was named after a famous educationist and was as traditional as any other. That says nothing about this one, only that the name alone won't tell you.

Mostly curiosity at this point. My mother says the same thing, in less polite words.

A school with an equally grand name was our son's first, years ago now. The nursery was ordinary and he was happy there. I'd look at the teacher who will actually have her rather than the philosophy on the gate.

A colleague's son went to a state board school in Khairatabad for KG, I'm not sure which one. What she found mattered most was the class size in nursery, not the method. Ask how many children there are in a nursery section when the time comes.

Class size is a good one to ask. When we were looking for our daughter years ago, I also asked how many adults are in the room: a teacher alone, or with an assistant. Twenty-five children with two adults felt very different from twenty with one. Did your colleague mention whether there was an assistant?

A different school with 'Montessori' in its name raised the same question for us, when we were looking for our son. We asked them straight out what a nursery morning looks like hour by hour. They were happy to tell us, and the answer made it very clear. Saves guessing from the name 😄

One more practical point. Froebel's approach used particular materials, blocks and shapes offered in a sequence. If the nursery uses anything like that, you will see it on the shelves. If the shelves are mostly workbooks, you have your answer without anyone needing to explain the philosophy.
