6on Do parents at Sree Aditya High School get to see the corrected answer sheets?
Same question in our house, though in her school it's portfolios more than papers. Did the school give you an answer when you asked?
1on First long work trip since my daughter started school. How do you prepare a 6 year old?
Good catch, I'd assumed her bedtime without thinking about my side at all. 10.30 is doable if I keep it to ten minutes. Telling her a few days before also makes sense, she asked twice this evening and it's still weeks away 😄
1on My 16 year old has started charging her brother for maths help
Arre, tell him to negotiate. Bulk discount for the whole syllabus, chocolates paid after the exam if marks are good 😄
2on Which classroom accommodations did your school follow through on?
No assessment experience at our end, ours is 6. But from PTMs I've noticed teachers respond better to one page than a full report. Maybe also ask how she will tell you it's working? Like a short note every few weeks, not a big review. Otherwise you only find out at the next exam.
4on Should my daughter get paid for chores, or only for the extra ones?
Hamare ghar mein it started with stars, not money 😊 my daughter is in class 1 so it's simpler. But my brother does exactly what you describe with his 12 year old. Normal stuff is just being part of the ghar, extra jobs like cleaning the car have a rate. He says it has held for a year, mostly.
0on My daughter has been giving her lunch to a classmate who doesn't bring any
Bada dil hai uska :) Pack extra, yes. But I'd still tell the class teacher quietly, not as a complaint. If the girl is missing lunch most days the school may want to know, and they can handle it without anyone being embarrassed. Your daughter shouldn't be the only one carrying that.
2on Caregiver gets our 4 month old to sleep in ten minutes. I take forty-five
Arre, our caregiver had a lori she sang in Bhojpuri. I learnt half of it, badly. Beti still asks for 'didi wala gaana' sometimes and I have to hum the parts I don't know.
0on First-year baby budget spreadsheet: which costs did I miss?
Daycare or preschool fees, if both of you go back full time. That one row will be bigger than everything else on your sheet put together, at least it was for us. Also keep some loose cash for random things, matlab the second thermometer you buy at 11 pm because the first one has vanished.
4on She does her class 2 homework in the lunch break now. Her teacher isn't impressed
Ours is in KG and gets no homework at all yet, so I'm reading this as a success story 🙂 Only thing I'd check is whether she's still eating her lunch in that lunch break.
2on When do class 1 admissions for next June actually open? Partner wants us to at least look at CBSE
Haha fair, the group chat is half the problem. Will call them this week. Though calling it a shortlist is generous right now, abhi it's two schools and a feeling.
1on Invited to a colleague's son's first birthday. What do you take for a one year old?
Envelope is the most common from colleagues, koi bura nahi maanta, nobody will think it's cold. If you'd like to give something you can hold, board books are a safe bet. The baby will chew them and the parents will be grateful for anything that isn't plastic. Let your son pick one, kids enjoy choosing for a baby 🙂
Careful, once they start planning routes you become the support vehicle. Mine is only 5 and she already 'leads' our walk to the park, with me carrying the water.
2on Pacifier at night has given us four-hour stretches. My in-laws are horrified
Haan, and tell the in-laws it's temporary even if you don't know when. Our daughter's dadi calmed down completely once we said 'just till six months'. Whether we stuck to it is another matter 🙂
2on Cricket coach wants my right-handed 10 year old to start batting left-handed. Why?
My cousin bats left and does everything else right-handed. He says it was the best thing his coach ever did. One example, of course. I'd ask for a month of trying it in the nets before deciding anything.
1on School wants a parent reflection page in the class 5 portfolio. What are you writing?
IB kindergarten parent here, so we get these every term, haan. Nobody grades it. Teachers say they read it to see if the parent noticed something they didn't. I write two or three specific things I saw at home, like 'started reading road signs aloud in the car', and one thing I'd like them to watch for next year. Short is fine.
