Should my daughter get paid for chores, or only for the extra ones?

ivory_trail_3991

My daughter has asked to be paid for helping at home. Some of her friends get money for washing the car or folding laundry, and she wants the same arrangement. At the moment she does a few things without pay: her own room, setting the table, watering the plants. I don't want her asking what she gets every time she is asked to help. On the other hand she wants to save for something, and earning it seems better than us just handing it over. Has anyone set this up so the everyday things stay unpaid and only extra jobs earn something? Did it hold?

Hamare ghar mein it started with stars, not money 😊 my daughter is in class 1 so it's simpler. But my brother does exactly what you describe with his 12 year old. Normal stuff is just being part of the ghar, extra jobs like cleaning the car have a rate. He says it has held for a year, mostly.

In Kanpur we got nothing for chores, it was simply expected, and I've carried that on with my son, he's in class 4. I can see the risk with a list of paid jobs though. Mine would negotiate the rate for every single one. Your brother's way sounds more workable than what I imagined.
