Started early morning cycling to get my 11 year old moving. Ten days in, he's the one waiting at the gate

The idea was mine. Get him off the phone, get myself off the chair, two loops of the colony before it gets hot. The first three days I had to drag him out of bed, lots of 'Papa please, five minutes'. Now he's downstairs with both cycles out, ringing the bell, and I'm the one asking for five minutes. I'm typing this at 5.50 because I've been told to be down by 6. Yesterday at breakfast he announced that I 'need to work on my stamina' 🙂

Exactly how it went with swimming here. I booked us both so he wouldn't feel alone, and now he does laps while I hold the edge and 'rest'. Enjoy it while he still wants you along 🙂

That's the plan. He's already talking about a 'proper' ride out towards the ORR next month, and I'm quietly checking how far that is 🙂

      Replying to @gentle_river_2769

Careful, once they start planning routes you become the support vehicle. Mine is only 5 and she already 'leads' our walk to the park, with me carrying the water.

Lovely. Our 11 year old would cycle at 6 am only if it ended at a tiffin centre. Is there a breakfast stop on your loop? That's what has kept ours going on weekends.

The tiffin stop is the whole secret. My 14 year old and I walk to the idli cart near the tank every Sunday and she has not missed it once ❤️ The little one comes along in the stroller for his share of vada.

Mine did this with morning runs last year. It lasted till school reopened and the 6.45 van. Get in as many rides as you can before June.

True. We moved here from Bangalore last month and my son's cycling stopped with the move. The cycles are still in their packing. Reading this, I'm unpacking them this weekend.

Wait till he's 15 and you can't keep up at all. My elder one rides alone now and sends me a screenshot of the distance 🤷
