1on His daycare also runs a nursery. Stay on, or move him to a school's pre-primary at 3?
I work in school administration. Children who join at UKG or class 1 from a decent playgroup settle fine. What teachers notice is whether they can sit in a group and follow a routine, not which building they were in at 3. The long hours you need are a real reason. 'Being in the system' isn't much of one.
0on Anyone with a child in LKG at Bhashyam, Meerpet? We may move to that side next year
Call the office. Most schools I know start taking names for LKG somewhere between Diwali and January, but every place does it differently and the parent groups are usually a month behind.
0on From ICSE to State Board in class 1. Anyone done this at St. Johns Global Edu-Tech in Uppal?
Board can wait till you shortlist. For nursery, see the classroom and the toilets, and ask how they settle new kids in June. That's most of it.
1on A student in my class will have a reader for the half-yearly. What helped your child?
From the admin side - the separate room is usually the easy part. What kids tell us afterwards is that the hard bit was classmates' questions the next day. Where the class teacher had a plain one-line answer ready ('she writes her exam in another room, that's all') it died down in a day. Where nobody said anything it dragged on for weeks.
speaking as a vice principal, we'd happily invite your plumber to the science fair. this is exactly the kind of answer we hope for
1on Our car has no ISOFIX. Anyone around Habsiguda or Tarnaka who can check a seatbelt-fitted baby seat?
Same issue with our old car years back. Kneel in the seat and pull the belt tight, that's the trick. Also check whether your belt locks when you pull it all the way out. Ours didn't, and that's why it kept loosening.
6on Class 9 son has realised the school app tells me about his diary remarks before he's home
From the school side: remarks go out during the day precisely so parents hear it before the child's version is ready. Your son has found the counter-move. Respect 🤷
3on staff meeting moved to wednesdays till 5.15 and i'm the one who does pickup
speaking from the side that makes these timetables: ask. early in the term, in writing, with a plan for what you'll miss (minutes, a catch-up with your hod next morning). most of us would rather excuse one person for pickup than have them watching the clock for two hours. no promises, every school is different 🤷
0on Mothers of toddlers, what fabric do you really want in a frock for a 1 year old?
lining helps. our problem was the elastic at the sleeves and waist, it left red marks on our daughter's arms every time. keep it loose or use a tie
3on She labelled every new notebook herself. Also the TV remote, the fridge and me
Speaking from the school office side: the children who label everything are the ones whose things come back from lost property. Encourage it. Maybe not on the laptop.
1on How big are the class 4 sections at Nightingale High School, and how much homework comes home?
Can't help on Nightingale. From the admin side in general: section sizes change year to year depending on who leaves, so whatever a parent tells you about this year may not hold for next year. Ask the school for the current strength of class 4 and 5 when you visit. Most will tell you if you ask straight.
4on 11 yr old ran a blind mango tasting for the family. numbered pieces, scorecards, everything
Ha, this is a better science project than half of what comes in at our school. Did he keep it a fair test? Same knife, same temperature, same plate?
3on Relatives think being a vice principal means I can 'arrange' a class 11 seat
Hadn't thought of that. He's probably more embarrassed than any of us.
0on Could Radiant High School in Musheerabad work for our daughter from class 5?
When you visit, ask to see a class 4 or 5 notebook from last year. One notebook tells you more than the whole prospectus. Also ask how they handle a child joining mid-primary from CBSE. Some schools do a bridge, some just hand over the books.
1on Eggs for our toddler, when the person who cooks for her has never made one
balcony induction is the real answer here. we did the same for fish 🤷
