A student in my class will have a reader for the half-yearly. What helped your child?

I'm a class teacher at a CBSE school, and this term one of my class 5 students has been approved for a reader during exams. The school has explained the rules to us teachers. What nobody can tell me is what it feels like for the child to walk out to a separate room with an adult while the rest of the class watches. If your child has had a reader or scribe, what did the teachers do that made it easier, or harder? I'd rather ask parents than guess.

From the admin side - the separate room is usually the easy part. What kids tell us afterwards is that the hard bit was classmates' questions the next day. Where the class teacher had a plain one-line answer ready ('she writes her exam in another room, that's all') it died down in a day. Where nobody said anything it dragged on for weeks.

Do you tell the class beforehand, or only once someone asks?

not a parent of a school kid yet, but my younger brother had a scribe in school. what he still brings up is the one teacher who walked him to the room chatting about cricket like it was nothing. small thing, he remembers it twenty years later

this. the walk to the room matters more than the room
