Relatives think being a vice principal means I can 'arrange' a class 11 seat

Cousin's son has finished class 10 and wants class 11 at my school. Applications are open, same as for everyone. Cousin keeps calling to ask me to 'just put in a word', and now my mother is calling too. I've told them the process, the test, the dates. Doesn't matter. To them I'm being difficult. The boy is a nice kid and a decent student, he'd probably get in on his own. I just don't want him thinking it was me if he does, or blaming me if he doesn't 🤷 How do others handle this with family?

my daughter's in the same year so i've been watching this from the other side. parents in our group would give a lot for a relative inside a school. doesn't make it fair on you. i wonder if the boy would rather hear it from you directly than through his parents

Hadn't thought of that. He's probably more embarrassed than any of us.

I taught for nine years before we moved here and it was the same every April. For me it was my husband's colleagues, not relatives, which was worse because I couldn't avoid them at functions. What finally worked was giving everyone the same printed sheet with the dates and saying I sign nothing. After one year people stopped asking.
