1on Weekly video calls with my 15 year old sister are down to 'fine' and 'nothing'
Could you do something together on the call instead of just talking? My elder son and my brother play the same online game on Sunday evenings and barely say ten words, but he never misses it. Or send her things that don't need a reply. A silly photo, a song. It keeps the door open without asking anything of her.
3on How many separate payment circulars does Sri Chaitanya CBSE in Hayathnagar send in a year?
Asked for exactly this at our son's school during renewal last year. They gave a printed list of the previous year's extras without any fuss, and it made the comparison so much easier ❤️
1on My son has drawn a revision progress bar on the fridge so we stop asking him
Love this. My 11 year old's version is a sticky note on his door that says 'Studying', underlined twice, which I have learned means anything from studying to watching cricket highlights. At least yours comes with numbers 😄
It doesn't, unfortunately 😅 We looked at a school across the city for my older one. On a Saturday it was 35 minutes. We did a test run on a weekday at 7.40 and gave up halfway. If your work is on that side it may still work for you. Just try the real school-time drive once before you decide.
0on Renting near BHEL next year and looking at Vidya Bharathi High School for nursery
We moved across the city once when my older one was small ❤️ The school was the easy part. The hard part was the drop-off. If production starts early, who will do the morning drop? Worth sorting that before you sign anything.
Bolarum from Kokapet is a big shift, hope the renting works out. No idea about this school's ground, but my son runs too, and what saved us when his games time dropped was an evening running group in our colony. Might be worth looking for one wherever you land, so school isn't his only outlet.
1on Grade 6 IB maths looks far behind what her CBSE cousins are doing. Do we add something?
This is the worry I would have too. Our son is in class 6, CBSE, and honestly the procedures are most of what the class does. Long exercises, same type again and again. He can do them fast. Ask him why something works and he is lost. So I wouldn't assume she's behind. She may be ahead in the part that's hard to teach later ❤️
6on My housekeeper's 2 year old comes with her on Saturdays now. What should I keep at home for him?
Mine is almost two, so this is current: Stacking cups A tub of water on the balcony with a few cups and spoons (he will get wet) Chunky crayons and old newspaper A ball The water tub alone buys an hour here ❤️
0on Sikh Education Soc Gurunanak School in Malakpet for a class 6 joiner coming from IB?
Don't know this school. A neighbour's daughter moved from IB to a State Board school in class 6 last year. What her mother told me was that the writing load was the big change, long answers in every subject, more than the marks themselves. She had settled by the second term ❤️
2on first week of inter. leaves at 7, back at 8.30, and college is 'fine'
My nephew did two years of this. The first few weeks he only slept. By the second month he was laughing at dinner again, complaining about teachers, the usual. Keep dinner warm and don't make him talk ❤️
0on Three activities started and dropped in a year, and now she wants to try another
My older one is 10 and doing exactly this. I started asking what he didn't like before he quit. Sometimes it was the activity. Twice it was a boy in the batch. That needed a very different conversation ❤
3on Taking my daughter on her first Old City food walk. Where would you start?
Metro to MGBS and then an auto is what we've done with family visiting from outside. If the crowd near Charminar feels like too much, the Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam side has good evening food too, and it's calmer for kids. My older boy prefers it ❤
We tried this when the baby arrived and our elder one started acting up. It was never ten neat minutes at a fixed time. It became the drive to his cricket coaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and lying on his bed after lights out on the other days. He chose what we talked about. Some days it was five minutes. The one rule we kept was that the phone stays in the other room. That mattered more than the timing ❤️
2on Our 3 year old wants karate because the boy downstairs does it. The class starts at 4
A cousin is the best free coach there is. My older one did the same with cricket, and now I have a toddler who throws a ball at the TV every time a match is on.
Ours slides drawings under the door after a fight. A picture of the two of us instead of paragraphs. I keep all of them in a folder. I've never once asked him to say it out loud instead, and I don't think I will.
0on 14 yr old has moved her mattress into her ammamma's room
Typing this at 2.30 with my youngest finally asleep on me, so take it for what it's worth. I'd leave it. My older one used to drift into his grandmother's room whenever things felt busy at home, and he came back on his own once it calmed down. At that age it may just be the easiest company in the house. Nobody asks her about marks in there.
0on Is five months too soon to restart our Sunday food walks, baby in a carrier?
Between feeds worked better for us with our younger one. We'd feed just before leaving and be home within two hours. He slept through most of it, the carrier rocks them ❤
