Moving my 7 year old from CBSE to Sri Aurobindo International School, worried about the ICSE writing load

ochre_chai_4480

My daughter is 7, class 2, CBSE, at a school near us in Rajendranagar. Between school homework and the tuition everyone around us seems to send their children to, her evenings are already full, and I don't want to keep adding. I'm on the Nallakunta side four days a week for work, so Sri Aurobindo International School has come up as an option for class 3 next year. I know almost nothing about it beyond the ICSE board and that it goes up to 12. For anyone with children there or who knows families there: how much written homework comes home in the primary classes, and do most children manage without tuition? Also curious whether a CBSE to ICSE move at class 3 felt like a big jump for your child.

no first-hand knowledge of this school. on the board switch: class 3 is about as easy a time as you'll get. the jump is mostly in english, longer answers and more writing, less in maths. kids who read a lot tend to cope fine. kids who don't, take a term.

That matches what I saw when a friend's son moved from CBSE to ICSE in class 4. Maths was fine, the English answers were the problem for the first few months. Teachers wanted full sentences where he was used to writing two words. He settled by the second term.

ours is icse at a different school, class 6 now. tuition in primary had more to do with the parents in her class than the board. half the class went, half didn't, homework was the same for both. worth asking the school straight out whether they expect it.

Went in today with my daughter. Only got as far as the office and a form, they said we'd be called for an interaction later. I'll ask the tuition question directly when we go back, I liked your way of putting it. The drive back to Rajendranagar on a Saturday afternoon was fine. Not sure that tells me anything about a weekday.

It doesn't, unfortunately 😅 We looked at a school across the city for my older one. On a Saturday it was 35 minutes. We did a test run on a weekday at 7.40 and gave up halfway. If your work is on that side it may still work for you. Just try the real school-time drive once before you decide.
