Sikh Education Soc Gurunanak School in Malakpet for a class 6 joiner coming from IB?

mellow_fern_6967

Our daughter starts class 5 at her IB school next week, and we are putting together a list for class 6 next year. The Sikh Education Soc Gurunanak School in Malakpet came up while I was going through schools on the east side, which is not where I would have looked first. I'm on the admissions side at my own school, so I know how much a website leaves out. For current parents: do they take children in at class 6, is there an entrance test, and how do children from other boards settle in? General experience welcome too.

Is the board change already decided, or are you comparing across boards? I ask because the questions differ. If it's State Board specifically, second language at class 6 is often the hard part for a joiner. If you're open, it may be worth listing a CBSE school in the same area to compare against.

comparing across boards. my partner and i are not of one mind, which is why the list is long and odd.

  • Don't know this school. A neighbour's daughter moved from IB to a State Board school in class 6 last year. What her mother told me was that the writing load was the big change, long answers in every subject, more than the marks themselves. She had settled by the second term ❤️

Motinagar to Malakpet at 8 am, enna, that's a proper journey every day. My appa used to drive that side for work and he'd leave by 7 :) Not saying no to the school, only check the van route and timing before you fall for it.

noted. the van question is now first on the list. my daughter has already asked whether she would be allowed to sleep in the van.

  • we're in motinagar too. we looked east for a while too and dropped it because of the drive, not the schools. if you go and see it pls share, i'd like to know

adding to the second language point. if her language in ib was hindi or french, ask whether they accept that for a joiner or whether she'd have to start telugu from scratch. i teach languages and that's the part that decides how the first year feels
