after we argue, my daughter goes to her room and sends me a long apology text. we live in the same flat

it's a proper message too. paragraphs. what she did, why, that she's sorry, sometimes a line about what i did that she didn't like, which is fair. i read it in the kitchen, twenty feet from her door. last night i texted back, and then neither of us came out, and it felt odd and also fine. i keep wondering whether i should knock instead. or whether this is just how she says things she can't say to my face yet.

Reply in the same way first, then knock a bit later with tea or something to eat, no need to bring it up again. Our son does notes on the fridge whiteboard. If I answer on the whiteboard and then just sit near him, he usually starts talking on his own. The text is the hard part for them, the knock is easy for us ❤

Ours slides drawings under the door after a fight. A picture of the two of us instead of paragraphs. I keep all of them in a folder. I've never once asked him to say it out loud instead, and I don't think I will.
