no fight, no announcement. one evening the mattress was on the floor next to my mother's bed and that's where she sleeps now. they watch old telugu serials on the tablet till late and giggle like roommates. i'm glad they're close. i'm also a bit put out and can't tell if i should be. leave it?

Typing this at 2.30 with my youngest finally asleep on me, so take it for what it's worth. I'd leave it. My older one used to drift into his grandmother's room whenever things felt busy at home, and he came back on his own once it calmed down. At that age it may just be the easiest company in the house. Nobody asks her about marks in there.

busy at home is fair. i've had more hospital duty than usual this month and she's been with my mother most evenings. didn't connect the two till you said it

      Replying to @mint_sparrow_4003

My mother comes from Kolkata for two months every year and my daughter moves into her room the first night. It's also the only time she speaks Bengali without being asked, so I've stopped minding. Whatever they whisper about at night, it's in the language I've been trying to keep alive at home. I'll take that trade.
